My Favorite Saint Louis Breweries

Saint Louis has a rich history of German brewers that led to several large breweries around the city. While prohibition changed the landscape, there are dozens of well established breweries in the area today. Below, I've included a roundup of my favorite breweries to visit in Saint Louis, as well as my favorite beers. I'm not an IPA girl, so you'll notice my recommendations are primarily pale ales and Belgian wheats. These breweries have extensive menus with options for everyone.
Anheuser-Busch Brewery
1200 Lynch St, St. Louis, MO 63118One of the oldest and most well-known breweries in the United States is located right here in Saint Louis, Missouri. Take a free tour at the AB Brewery and you’ll receive a token for one free beer at the end (21 and up, of course). The Biergarten is also attached, where you can grab a bite to eat and another cold beer. It is also a fun venue for private events. In the winter, Anheuser Busch hosts Brewery Lights, where you get a free beer, take a walk around the campus and view lots of lights and even go ice skating!

Brick River Cider Co.
2000 Washington Ave, St. Louis, MO 63103In a former firehouse on Washington Ave, you'll find St. Louis's first hard cider company. At the ciderworks and taproom, enjoy your favorite cider or try a new drink with a tasting flight. These ciders are crafted using Midwestern apples and there is typically a seasonal or experimental flavor on tap. I recommend checking out Brick River Cider Co. on Friday night, when flights are buy one get one free. The restaurant also serves a brunch and dinner menu, with gluten free and vegetarian options.
My favorite cider: Firehouse Rosé
4Hands Brewing Co.
1220 S 8th St, St. Louis, MO 631044Hands Brewing Co. sits close to Highway 44 in the Soulard neighborhood, near Busch Stadium. Best known for its City Wide Ale, 4Hands also brews a variety of seasonal and limited edition beers. There are two bars - inside the entrance and upstairs that often have different drinks on tap. 4Hands also creates a range of hard seltzers in locally inspired flavors. The upstairs tasting room is complete with large tables for groups and arcade games that are free to play.
My favorite beer: Ripple White Ale and Sparkler (hard seltzer)
Earthbound Brewing
2724 Cherokee St, St. Louis, MO 63118This unique microbrewery is located on Cherokee Street and features beers made with “experimental” ingredients. The brewery was started in 2014 and expanded in 2016 when they renovated a 150 year old brewery building. Earthbound Brewery has also been credited as a major player in revitalizing Cherokee Street. Along with beer on tap, they also serve BBQ food. The staff are super friendly and knowledgeable. The brewery features space to eat and drink indoors as well as on the patio during warmer months. They also offer tours on Saturdays for $15.
My favorite beer: Cozy Cowboy
Perennial Artisan Ales
8125 Michigan Ave, St. Louis, MOThe small batch brewery and tasting room can be found in the South Carondelet neighborhood of Saint Louis. Perennial's craft brews are typically American and Belgian inspired, with collaborations and special releases throughout the year. Ingredients are local, seasonal and organic ingredients whenever possible. The menu also includes a few appetizers to pair with your new favorite beer. It's easy to spend a whole afternoon here, as the large patio and outdoor seating area features swing chairs and yard games.
My favorite beer: Poolside Breeze
Schlafly Bottleworks
7260 Southwest Ave, Maplewood, MO 63143The Schlafly Bottleworks are located in Maplewood, just outside of the city of Saint Louis. This location was chosen to comply with an old Saint Louis law stating that you could only open a brewery inside city limits if you also owned a baseball stadium. They also now have a taproom downtown. Head to the Bottleworks location for a free tour every Saturday and Sunday. The tour includes the brew making process and bottling. After the tour, you’ll be able to enjoy complimentary samples of different beers on tap. Schlafly also typically holds several fun events throughout the year and a farmer’s market in the summer.
My favorite beer: Raspberry Hefeweizen & Proper Cider
Urban Chestnut Brewing Company
4465 Manchester Ave, St. Louis, MO 63110Urban Chestnut’s brewery and bierhall is located in The Grove neighborhood of Saint Louis, surrounded by other unique restaurants and bars. You can reserve a free tour on the weekends. I really enjoyed learning about their sustainability efforts when I took a tour! Stop by to sip on your favorite beer and European-style food. Urban Chestnut has beers that honor German brewing principles and some that mimic newer American craft beer style, so there is something for everyone. They also have a Midtown location, featuring a large Biergarten and some lighter food.
My favorite beer: Big Shark Grapefruit Radler
