I visited Costa Rica when I was a high school student on a miniature study abroad trip. I fell in love with the tropical landscape and laid-back culture. I was also pleasantly surprised to find out it is a relatively inexpensive country to visit for American travelers. It is generally also very accommodating of non-Spanish speakers as their main industry is tourism. Costa Rica has just two true seasons: rainy and dry. For first-time travelers, I recommend visiting during the dry season. You can definitely still enjoy sunny days on the beach during the rainy season but expect downpours in the afternoons. The dry season spans from January to April and the rainy season includes May through December.

All of the accommodations featured in this blog post have Airbnb Superhosts or are featured on Airbnb Plus so you know you will get the best possible experience! Check out these incredible houses and apartments in Costa Rica:

You will be far from the crowded, noisy areas with views of Puntarenas and the night sky. There are nearby areas to go hiking, visit rivers or explore the jungle canopy. This Airbnb would be such a fun romantic getaway or solo trip.

Bird Paradise Suite

This apartment is conveniently located near restaurants, bars, grocery stores and local attractions. When I visited Monteverde, we went ziplining and hiking. A small adventurous family or couple could really enjoy a vacation at this apartment. The apartment has an open concept, where the bedroom flows into the living room area and kitchen. Unique features include a large balcony and huge windows so you can immerse yourself in the cloud forest.

Ocean View Penthouse Suite

Puntarenas, Costa Rica

A couple or solo traveler will find all the necessities in this penthouse condo. The kitchenette is ideal for light meals and snacking. The bedroom can be sealed off from the rest of the apartment and has air conditioning if the sea breeze doesn’t cut it. Large windows offer breathtaking views of Manuel Antonio. I spent a couple days in Manuel Antonio on my trip and we saw sloths! It is a popular tourist destination so there are plenty of places to eat, drink, shop and explore.

Costa Rica is an incredible destination to visit. The small country has so much to offer, from lush jungles to relaxing beaches. It can also be surprisingly budget-friendly. The more expensive Airbnbs on this list also accommodates a lot of people!
